Dhauli Shanti Stupa in Odisha: A visit to Odisha's much revered Jagannath Temple this year has been one of my happiest moments in 2023. When I remember my first darshan at the iconic Puri temple, it brings such joy to my heart!

Why is Dhauligiri Famous?
Located about 8 km from Bhubaneshwar, this place has a picturesque and scenic view. It is believed that King Ashoka's intention to end war and embrace Ahimsa took place at this spot called Dhauligiri, where the tourist spot has become a cultural and spiritual hub.The image shown in this blog has been from the same spot where the Shanti Stupa has been constructed. In fact, it is believed that King Ashoka had laid the foundation of this Stupa at Dhauli, Odisha.
For those of you who are wondering what can be seen in Dhauli, this is the answer- the Shanti Stupa of Buddha, which is symbolic of Ashoka's conversion to Buddhism, following the Kalinga War.
As we all know, Buddha's teachings on Ahimsa is believed to have transformed King Ashoka. Historians are of mixed views on whether it was a matter of strategic positioning or a true inner calling that propelled the powerful King to end wars and violence as part of his expansion strategy.
In the end, what really matters is that peace triumphs, so did the message of Buddha - which is Ahimsa.
Clearly, Dhauligiri Shanti Stupa stands as a testament to the triumph of Ahimsa. While the world navigates through tumultous phases, this image of the sleeping Buddha just brings to mind a fleeting thought: This too shall pass.
As I wrap up this blogpost, I can't help sharing a beautiful quote from a famous author Penelope Lively: When you are able to be with a person and there is no need to talk, something has happened.
Now do tell me: What's your plan for the New Year? I'd love to know!
