Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakum movie review: The goodness of humanity shines through Akhil Sathyan's film. Cinematographer Sharan Velayudhan deserves a special mention for the stunning visuals. I felt like I was cruising through Goa!
Simply put, a heartwarming, family entertainer!
[Source: Fahadh Faasil]Who are the actors in Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakum movie?
'Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakum' is a family entertainer starring Fahadh Faasil, Innocent, Mukesh, Shanthi Krishna, Vineeth, Anjana Jayaprakash, Ahana Krishna, Viji Venkatesh, Dhwani Rajesh, Althaf Salim, Indrans, etc. A striking aspect of Akhil Sathyan's 'Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakum' pertains to the freshness of the cast and the story.
The story revolves around 'Pachu' who is on a 'pennukannal' record breaking spree and finds himself in a situation where he is requested by his landlord (starring Vineeth) to undertake a train journey from Kerala to Mumbai with an elderly lady (starring Viji Venkatesh). She is brilliant as the elegant and stylish 'Ummachi'!
During the train journey, Ummachi steps out when the train reaches Goa and in panic, Pachu rushes to find her and the journey is a tumultous one as many unexpected events lead to a chain reaction of funny incidents. And that's when 'Hamsadhwani' (starring Anjana Jayaprakash) comes into the picture.
The interactions between Pachu and Hamsadhwani crackle with lively banter and there's good chemistry!
However, the exact 'crux' of the story is revealed only during intermission, making it a longer wait than necessary.

[Source: Fahadh Faasil]Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakum movie review: Few Stellar Performances
Debutant actors Viji Venkatesh and Anjana Jayaprakash excelled in their respective roles in Akhil Sathyan's 'Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakum' movie.
Vineeth, whose stellar performances are well-known, excelled yet again in the role of 'Riyas'. He dons the role of a wealthy landlord who behaves like many of the rich people we see around us. The utter disgust he shows when he has to face poverty and his obvious affection for anyone who cares for his mother embody a gray aspect of human personality. In a way, it shows no individual is perfect or imperfect.
In the scenes where 'Riyas' becomes emotional and insecure about his mother and asks her not to leave him, Vineeth demonstrates his sophisticated grasp of the craft, as a seasoned actor. Viji Venkatesh is brilliant in this scene and how she lovingly teaches him to let go of the craze for making more money and to live fully instead.
From the first scene onwards, Anjana Jayaprakash clinched my interest and warmed my heart. Her portrayal of the character is almost perfect. Her body language, grace, poise and dialogue delivery had excellent timing. The chemistry between 'Dhwani' and 'Pachu' crackled with synergy right from the first scene. In fact, I was hoping that 'Dhwani' doesn't disappear after a few scenes, the way several characters in the film seemed to drop off without warning.
The young artist, who donned the role of 'Nidhi', delivers a poignant performances with her intense gaze and well-spoken English, thereby highlighting why good education is a necessity for every Indian child, irrespective of their background.

Memorable scenes between 'Pachu' and 'Dhwani' spring to relatable, real life situations. There is a scene where 'Dhwani' describes 'Pachu' as 'not a good looking guy' to her boyfriend Vivek, who sees his pic on WhatsApp and has a completely different reaction. At that moment, Pachu's 'reaction' is so realistic and you just can't help grinning along!
A scene I really liked is where Pachu wrecks the proposal at a restaurant by taking Dhwani aside and telling her that she deserves better. The way he convinces her, with a dash of humour and logic, is so good! At the same time, you can sense that his emotions are all over the place too.
A deeply poignant scene is where Pachu looks deeply into Dhwani's eyes as she talks about her brother and you can see Pachu's own sorrow reflect through his eyes. As an actor, Fahadh Faasil demonstrates mastery over his craft through the subtlest expressions using his eyes and smile.

Viji Venkatesh plays her role to perfection as an elderly woman who is travelling alone but has a 'secret mission' of her own. She is stylish, graceful and conscious of the logical outcome of her choices. Her manner of speaking, poise, body language and playful twinkle in her eyes add to the alluring personality of 'Ummachi'.The way she talks to Riyas, her angry son and tells him gently to let go of the 'illness called greed' and to start living is one of the many poignant facets of this film. There is a subtle message for everyone here.
As an artist, it was a pleasure to wach Viji Venkatesh roll into her character's quirky side naturally. The 'pepper spray' scene is something to watch for!
Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakum movie review: What could have been better?
Duration of the film: The story of Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakum would have been more impactful if it weren't so long. The pacing of the film needed to be sharper. The crux of the film stretched on till intermission.
Music of the film: Good music is something I look forward to when I watch Malayalam films. Somehow, the songs in the film didn't match my expectations. Even today, I love listening to the songs in 'Sukhamo Devi'. Premam is another movie that was delightful with its lovely mix of songs.
Continuity of characters in the film: Some potential characters had no continuity in the film, which makes one wonder why they were shown in the first place! As a fine artist, Santhi Krishna's role could have been fleshed out better.
There is a scene towards the end of the film where she becomes emotional about Nidhi, which didn't make sense to me for two reasons. Firstly, at no point in the film, does Santhi Krishna show or inquire or have a conversation about Nidhi with her son. Secondly, there is no logical sequence to justify the tears in her eyes and her overwhelming love for Nidhi when there is no context in the narrative to build up to that emotional scene. However, Mukesh had many funny scenes and his dialogue delivery and body language align to perfection.
