Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Movie Review: Tabu is the showstopper in this Kartik Aaryan-Kiara starrer

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Movie Review:  Directed by Anees Bazmee, 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2' is a 'complete entertainment package' that will entertain you from start to finish. Starring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani, this is a funny horror movie with brilliant cinematography that you will enjoy. But first, throw logic out of the window!

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Movie Review: Story of Two Strangers
Starting with two strangers (Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani) who are travelling to a picturesque location, the story of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is completely different from its previous avatar - the one starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan. Frankly, I didn't like their film  as it seemed like a poor copy of the original Malayalam film - Manichithrathaazhu starring Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi and Shobhana in the lead roles.

As I knew Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 has Tabu in the lead role, I wanted to watch it. It is a pleasure to watch hw Tabu holds her characters on screen and the poise with which she, as an artist, breathes life into the protagonists she transmutes her energy into.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Movie Review: From Manali to Rajasthan

From Manali to Rajasthan, the distance would be 'kilometres and kilometres' as Malayalis would say, with a dash of humour.

In this film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, the story revolves in a palatial mansion in Rajasthan that is known as a haunted place of 'Manjulika'. A wealthy family is forced to shift from this place to let her reign in her dark empire. However, everything changes suddenly and the whole family is back in the same mansion and knowing very well that there are dangers of living in a haunted house.

Our hero 'Ruhan' (starring Kartik Aaryan) is charming, witty and holds the comic and romantic sequences smoothly.

Clearly, logical thinking has no place in the narrative as it would take a 'rarest of the rare' instance for a young Indian man to offer to live in a haunted house, just to woo the lovely girl Reet (starring Kiara Advani) and that too, by lying to her entire family. The story begins on a lie, which eventually leads to disturbing truths that were hidden away within a wealthy family's dark past.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Movie Review: What I liked
  • Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani bring a refreshing, chilled out vibe to this movie - yes, their chemistry is near-perfect in every scene
  • It keeps you entertained.
  • I skip all horror films. Bhool Bhulaiyya 2 was fun to watch.
  • Tabu is brilliant as she holds every scene with confidence and grace.
  • Sanjay Mishra, Rajesh Sharma and Rajpal Yadav made me laugh in almost every scene -such fine artists!
  • Siddhant Ghegadmal, the child artist in  Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, is an young and talented artist to watch out for! His sense of comic timing and expressions are a treat to watch. Best of all, he holds his ground firmly!

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Movie Review: What I didn't like
  • The dialogues between Ruhan and Reet are too cheesy.
  • The pace of their journey seems rushed to hurry them into the haunted house.
  • Black magic is not a subject to be taken lightly and its technical aspects, if not captured correctly, can be highly misleading and misinterpreted.
  • The horror scenes were almost comical.
  • The last 15 minutes when the mystery is unravelled was boring and almost predictable.
  • The narrative treats 'black magic' as the source of all evil, whereas the real issue is the abuse of power and knowledge due to lack of proper guidance from a real mentor. [READ: What does Tantric mean?]
  • There is a fine line between mocking superstitions and educating people about it - this narrative mixes it up.
Starring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani, 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2' is fun to watch.

The Ugly Truth about Caste in Kerala

Many years ago, when I wrote this post on Kerala's caste system, I had not considered that people would start sending in abusive comments about one caste over the other. It baffles me that this is how Indians, all of us, continue to judge each other on account of caste differences.  [ READ: Guru Kripa: Powerful Lessons at the Lotus Feet ] My question is - why do you ABUSE any caste or community? I suggest that you read about the lives of great Masters and their stories - none of them judged anyone on the basis of caste.  You can read the life stories of Sri Adi Shankara Bhagawadpada, Tulsidas, Jnaneshwar, Namadev, Sri Aurobindo, Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Paramahansa Yogananda, Shirdi Sai Baba, and many more Gurus in Sanathana Dharma. NONE of them endorse these caste hierarchies in Bhakti Marga. Assuming that Guru Sampradaya does not appeal to your sensibilities, do read this  new book 'Ants among Elephants' written by Sujatha Gidla, who writes about herself as being bor...

Best time to light diya

Want to know when is the best time to light diya or deepam at home? In most Hindu homes, 'deepam' or 'diya' is lit at least twice - once in the morning and then in the evening. For both times, brass is considered to be auspicious for lighting deepam or lamp at home. Clay diyas are auspicious for lighting at home. On Fridays, it is considered auspicious to use ghee in a silver lamp. When Should I Start Lighting Diyas? The symbolic shift begins from darkess to light. Therefore, in the evenings, light diya before sunset to usher in divine blessings into your home. What is the purpose of lighting a diya? Light dispels darkness. When we light a diya, we bring light into our hopes and positive energy in our personal spaces. Nothing is more beautiful than Light. At what time should we light diya today? What is the story of Shivaji? The great son of a great mother called Jijabai

Chhatrapati Shivaji, the great Maratha warrior whose guerrilla warfare tactics are fleetingly mentioned in Indian history textbooks, is increasingly relevant today. A Hindi movie 'Tanhaji' starring Ajay Devgn and Kajol got many of us curious to know more about this warrior. Sadly, we don't seem to have much information in our history textbooks!   [ READ: Significance of Surya Argya  and How do you Light Deepam? ] Source: Anjali Natarajan on Twitter  Shivaji Maharaj: The Great Son of a Great Mother Jijabai The more I read about Shivaji Maharaj,   the more fascinated I am.   I wondered why we have learned so little about this great warrior and his great mother Jijabai, and why public memory has been totally erased from most history books! As a mother, I have always been fascinated by how some of India's greatest and most revered men and women are individuals who were deeply influenced at an early age by their mothers. Bharat is a country that belongs to...

Scientific reason behind lighting diyas

Lighting diyas at home is a part of my childhood. What is the science behind lighting diya? For decades, Hindu households light the diya or deepam every morning and evening. However, increasingly, there are many questions regarding why this practice is integral to the well-being of a Hindu home.                                                         [Source: Pexels.com]                                       Significance of Lighting Deepam Let's do a practice session. At sunset, switch off all the lights in your home - feel the energy inside your home. After all, everything is the same - your home is the same, the furniture is the same, your personality is the same. Sit in the darkness and decode the energy in your home - is it the same as during sunl...

A Book Review: One and a Half Wife by Meghna Pant

When I picked up Meghna Pant's One and a Half Wife , it is the title that evoked a curiosity in me more than the blurb that explains the story of a young Indian Immigrant girl whose Big American dream turns to ashes. To be honest, I’d say that there didn't seem to be a 'new-ness' to the way the blurb explained the story. In fact, if given a second chance, I’d suggest to the author to completely rewrite the blurb because it is plain dull and doesn't do justice to the subtle, exquisite nuances that underlines this deeply touching, well written story.   .  Also read: The Power of OM  and   Dark Night of the Soul Talking about nuances, I like the introduction of the story beginning with a parrot who picks up cards to predict the little girl Amara’s destiny as a ‘one and a half wife.’ The description is deeply touching and will evoke interesting memories with a distinct Indianess that all of us can relate to. The author adds a dash of subtle humor too, poking fun at t...
