Ayyappanum Koshiyum movie review: Outstanding film! Biju Menon outshines Prithviraj Sukumaran like never before
Ayyappanum Koshiyum movie review: After blockbuster hit 'Seniors', Malayalam film director Sachy is back in full throttle with Prithviraj-Biju Menon starrer 'Ayyappanum Koshiyum', a thorough and gripping entertainer.

With its gripping narrative, crisp dialogues, outstanding performances and haunting BGM that creates a real mood, the film 'Ayyappanum Koshiyum' left me completely spell-bound. Truth be told, I watched it till about 2 AM on Amazon Prime video. Biju Menon and Prithviraj Sukumaran, are outstanding in every scene. Every dialogue and scene between the two actors swings between light-hearted, humorous nuances that take down our society's mask and a blazing, raw intensity that makes you feel deeply for the two warring protagonists. An unexpected flare up paves the way for a revenge sage in this gripping narrative.

A brief but powerful cameo role by film maker Renjith is worth a mention as he plays the role of a man with a feudal mindset, terrifying his own son and playing him like a pawn even when there is a worried, over-protective side to the fatherly role that he brings to life.
Ayyappanum Koshiyum movie review: Attapadi liquor laws in spotlight
The narrative of Ayyappanum Koshiyum starts off with the two actors sparring over the liquor laws in Attapadi. While this sounds pretty boring, the movie's treatment is so unusual and dialogue-driven that you won't find it anything less than gripping and engaging within five minutes of the two actors meeting each other under 'difficult' and conflict-ridden circumstances. While SI Ayyappan Nair (starring Biju Menon) comes across as tough and compromising, Koshy (starring Prithviraj Sukumaran) is not exactly winning hearts with his flawed traits coming to the forefront. Two powerful adversaries, their character flaws standing out right from the first scene, makes the situation more unusual and gripping.
Ayyappanum Koshiyum movie dialogues: Local and rocking!
The dialogues in Ayyappanum Koshiyum movie lie at the heart of the conflict between two powerful men. Prithviraj is impressive in his dialogue delivery as a drunken man, an influential 'Achayan' with a false sense of entitlement about his contacts though he honestly confesses that 'Vijayan sir' in his phone contact list is definitely not 'Pinarayi Vijayan sir' to the cops. However, it is Biju Menon as 'Ayyappan Nair', who steals the show in Ayyappanum Koshiyum movie. His dialogues are few but his looks, body language and overall mastery of timing and dialogue delivery in every scene define him as an actor par excellence.
Gowri Nanda as 'Adivasi' wife in Ayyappanum Koshiyum
I liked Gowri Nanda, the actress who played the role of 'Ayyappan Nair's' Adivasi wife, whom Koshiy refers to as 'one with a Maoist scent'. The actress has a powerful screen presence as she positions her aggressive and fearless stand. Her body language and mannerisms show her courage and conviction as a leader of the community and the Maoist establishment that she represents.

Unapologetic, looking cops in the eye without flinching and not remotely worried about an influential 'Koshiy's' impact on their lives, the actress shows spunk and restraint at one go. Even the way she holds her baby during helpless situations demonstrates her spunk and character in the face of adversity.
Biju Menon delivers an outstanding performance by an actor whose body language adapts to every nuance of conflict and humour. AfterVeli Moonga, Ayyappanum Koshiyum is Biju Menon's best performance.
