Mentalhood Hindi movie:  Looking to watch the best parenting Hindi movie? Then, don't miss Karisma Kapoor's 'Mentalhood', which is a ALTBalaji-ZEE5 web series. Now, you can watch it on YouTube, which is what I did. Better still, read the comments of hundreds of moms who loved the film though it was trashed in online media reviews (secret: Yes, that's why I hugely distrust online media film reviews!) Mentalhood Hindi Movie: Story of 'We are Not Middle Class' Parents This highly engaging web series features 'super cool' moms including Karisma Kapoor as 'Meira Sharma' who shifted to Mumbai from Kanpur, Sandhya Mridhul as 'AJO' or 'Anuja Joshi', the PTA head and dynamo, and the supremely talented Tilotama Shome. An icing on the cake is t he handsome Dino Morea as 'Aakash'. Winter months have begun and I Have Learned Many Lessons This Year

In my part of the world, it is winter already. For me, it means that there is more work to be done at home. Winters are a time when I used to love snuggling into the blanket and sleeping for hours. Now that I am a mother, it feels like a distant dream and a luxury that I cannot afford. The truth of life is that mothers don't usually get that kind of luxury, not even on Sundays!               My experience of Saturday mornings is attending a full-fledged PTM that continues from 9 AM to 1 PM, my weekend is literally over, because I've got tasks pending at home. Of course, there are tons of chores that pile up like cooking the daily meals (wracking my head for something beyond the comfort food called dal ) and all of it has to get done by the end of the day. [ Do read: There's No Woman on The Moon ] Of course, I also have to remember to take out the family's treasury of sweaters and keep them ready in the wardrobe for daily use.   Plus,...

Why are women mean to women?

Women, in my experience, have always been mean to women, particularly when they occupy positions of power. This is a question I have always asked myself several times based on the various 'encounters' I have: Why are women more mean to women ?                                      {Image:Pexels} This post here may shake you up :   1. Researchers say that women try to take down other women whom they perceive as rivals for male attention. 2. This happens in order to 'eliminate competition.' 3. The more attractive a woman is, the more likely she is to be a target for contempt. Independent of the research findings, I want to share here some of my experience: Some years ago, I was stranded in Mumbai airport because the pilot couldn't land in Delhi due to low visibility on the runway. So, the flight was diverted to Mumbai.  I was traveling alone and recoverin...

What My First Job Taught Me & Why I didn't Learn Anything From It

When I first started my career, I made some grand assumptions about how I would transform the world, make it a better place and not compromise on my ideals or the values that define me as a person. One year into my first job, I saw through my stupid notions and knew it is all bullocks! You know there is nothing else you can really do but turn a blind eye to the small-skirted, hardly-can-write-a-sentence, cleavage showing girl who is definitely closer to the top brass/caucus than you can ever possibly be. Even her voice, which when she talks to a person of the same gender is sharp like a seagull's mean cry, becomes - the most and only accurate way to put is like this - sexually provocative as though she is in the middle of an act...it's exactly what can turn the toughest man into mush in minutes. I have seen this happen countless times and wished a thousand times I didn't exist to see this repeat itself over and over again.  But especially in the field of law and pri...

Saffron Butter Rice

Saffron rice (my version is shown in the pic above) is something my son loves. I got this recipe from Priya at http://priyaeasyntastyrecipes.blogspot.com/2009/03/saffron-rice-n-punjabi-okra-t-from.html . Adi, my three year old son is totally crazy about it. Trust me, he is a fussy eater and refuses rice totally. Somehow, the aroma and taste of this pulao gets him totally excited as he asks, " Hmm, Amma make this pulao for me?" And that, my dear friends, warms my heart and soul like butter on toast. Try this out as it is so easy to make, especially for working moms.
