Curious to know what are the benefits of worshipping Mookambika Devi? As a devotee, one can only confess that mere words are not enough to describe the glory or the benefits of worshipping the Goddess! I would highly recommend that you read Ruzbeh N Bharucha's 'Devi's Emerald', a fabulous book on the amazing miracles of the Goddess.

However, here are some of the most frequently asked questions on Sri Mookambika Temple:

1. Which Goddess is Mookambika?

Mookambika Devi, as she is called by her devotees, is Adi Parashakti. When Maha Saraswati, Maha Lakshmi and Mahakali merge, she is Mookambika.

2. Which Devi is in Mookambika?

The presiding deity is revered as Mookambika Devi. The belief is that she is the embodiment of all three Goddesses - Maha Saraswati, Maha Lakshmi and Maha Kali.

3. What are the benefits of worshipping Mookambika Devi?

The benefits of worshipping Mookambika Devi are manifold. An ordinary person can never capture the benefits of worshipping the Divine Mother. I certainly cannot describe the 'benefits' of worshipping Mookambika Devi as words are not enough and my knowledge is nowhere close to describing the Divine Mother's splendour.

But we all need to cultivate purity in our hearts first and then worship our Devatas, Rishis and Gurus out of Bhakti, and not to get something out of them.

For the purpose of making this information easy to understand, here are few benefits of worshipping Mookambika Devi:

  1. For the well being of your family, particularly your children's future
  2. Removal of Naga dosh - especially if any snakes have been killed in your home/premises or anywhere in which you or your family are involved
  3. Problems related to education, employent, property and marriage are easily overcome when you pray before Mookambika Devi.
  4. Elimination of Black magic/Shatru dosh/evil eye - A lot of people who believe to be suffering from black magic, 'Shatru dosh' and evil eye find relief when they pray before Mookambika Devi.
  5. Mastery over Creativitiy, Talent, Knowledge: Great artists and musicians across the country are noted for offering their music during Navaratri celebrations at the Kollur Mookambika temple. They seek mastery of their craft and knowledge to be a gift and a blessing from Mookambika Devi. Therefore, they use this sacred time to celebrate her blessings with her devotees through offering of music/dance.
As mentioned earlier, I, as an ordinary person, cannot quantify or begin to measure the divine splendour of Mookambika Devi. I have been praying to the Divine Mother for her darshanam and still not received it yet.

True devotion has no conditions. The stories of great seekers and Gurus such as Swami Vivekananda teach us the need to snap out of the default setting of 'materialism' and to cultivate absolute love and surrender to the Divine Mother.

The Ugly Truth about Caste in Kerala

Many years ago, when I wrote this post on Kerala's caste system, I had not considered that people would start sending in abusive comments about one caste over the other. It baffles me that this is how Indians, all of us, continue to judge each other on account of caste differences.  [ READ: Guru Kripa: Powerful Lessons at the Lotus Feet ] My question is - why do you ABUSE any caste or community? I suggest that you read about the lives of great Masters and their stories - none of them judged anyone on the basis of caste.  You can read the life stories of Sri Adi Shankara Bhagawadpada, Tulsidas, Jnaneshwar, Namadev, Sri Aurobindo, Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Paramahansa Yogananda, Shirdi Sai Baba, and many more Gurus in Sanathana Dharma. NONE of them endorse these caste hierarchies in Bhakti Marga. Assuming that Guru Sampradaya does not appeal to your sensibilities, do read this  new book 'Ants among Elephants' written by Sujatha Gidla, who writes about herself as being born

What is the story of Shivaji? The great son of a great mother called Jijabai

Chhatrapati Shivaji, the great Maratha warrior whose guerrilla warfare tactics are fleetingly mentioned in Indian history textbooks, is increasingly relevant today. A Hindi movie 'Tanhaji' starring Ajay Devgn and Kajol got many of us curious to know more about this warrior. Sadly, we don't seem to have much information in our history textbooks!   [ READ: Significance of Surya Argya  and How do you Light Deepam? ] Source: Anjali Natarajan on Twitter  Shivaji Maharaj: The Great Son of a Great Mother Jijabai The more I read about Shivaji Maharaj,   the more fascinated I am.   I wondered why we have learned so little about this great warrior and his great mother Jijabai, and why public memory has been totally erased from most history books! How do you light Deepam at home?

How do you light deepam at home? As a child, I loved watching the ritual of my grandmother lighting the deepam or the traditional lamp at home in the evenings. A sense of serenity accompanied her frail figure as she would carefully straighten every wick, dip it into the tiny puddle of oil and light the lamp. As my grandmother would read out the scriptures and chant the prayers, the fragrance of incense sticks and flowers added depth to the experience. In many Hindu homes nowadays, the lighting of the lamp (or the nilavilakku, as Malayalis refer to the traditional lamp in their homes) is not a regular practice. A lot of people have many questions around how to light deepam at home and which oil to use and so on. An important point to keep in mind - Maintain physical cleanliness and hygiene while lighting the lamp. Wear clean clothes while lighting the lamp. Happiness is like Mysore Pak

Wondering what is happiness? Here's a question: How happy are you? From January 2024, it seems as though everyone's on a rollercoaster ride. I've talked to so many people, Nearly all responses were on similar lines: "There's so much change happening in my personal and professional lines; it's crazy!!!! My whole life is changing so fast I can't keep up...." Have you been feeling the same way too? S tay assured you aren't alone. People experience or pursue happiness in different ways. Some find happiness in hurting and criticising others - they make it their life's mission! Others believe that name, fame and positions of power bring them happiness. There may also be intellectual geniuses and activists who can demonstrate excellence in how they present their findings and arguments most convincingly yet they too have their inner demons to tackle. We are often chained and bound by the beliefs we bombard our lives with. [Read: Can We Stop Being Jud
