Circling back to Warsaw's underground library, known as "Metroteka", this is the first of its kind launched in September 2025 at one of the metro stations. On the first day, almost 400 books were tagged for borrowing. A self-service system has been enabled through scanners to simplify the borrowing and returning of books by librar members.

While Warsaw witnesses a surge in readers who opt for the Metro library, several Metro stations across Delhi-NCR have already established bookstores, where readers can purchases books to read before they board the Metro.

Across India's bustling cities, the Metro ushers in a much needed respitea hugely comfortable, convenient and affordable way to travel. The journey becomes more fulfilling when you add a few books to the daily commute and make it a personal retreat. Instead of being glued to WhatsApp messages or Facebook notifications, reading a book is a more personally engaging experience.

Books and libraries are transformative ecosystems which we need today more than ever before. Redefining public spaces by initiating underground Metro libraries is a bold way to move forward. Poland's initiative is a commendable one as it paves the way for transforming people's way of thinking while they are travelling.

More innovations are sweeping across libraries across the globe. For intance, AR is being used in University libaries to enrich the experience. In the US, the National Library of Medicine enabled the AR use for interactive elements pertaining to medical history whereas Netherlands-based Deft University of Technology Library  showcased AR for simplifying user navigation. Visitors could follow virtual cues using AR glasses or smartphones for an engaging experience.

An exciting world of opportunities can bring more fun to the reading experience.

Here's to many more libraries and bookstores for book lovers to bid adieu to boredom and look forward to a delightful read while on the move!

The Ugly Truth about Caste in Kerala

Many years ago, when I wrote this post on Kerala's caste system, I had not considered that people would start sending in abusive comments about one caste over the other. It baffles me that this is how Indians, all of us, continue to judge each other on account of caste differences.  [ READ: Guru Kripa: Powerful Lessons at the Lotus Feet ] My question is - why do you ABUSE any caste or community? I suggest that you read about the lives of great Masters and their stories - none of them judged anyone on the basis of caste.  You can read the life stories of Sri Adi Shankara Bhagawadpada, Tulsidas, Jnaneshwar, Namadev, Sri Aurobindo, Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Paramahansa Yogananda, Shirdi Sai Baba, and many more Gurus in Sanathana Dharma. NONE of them endorse these caste hierarchies in Bhakti Marga. Assuming that Guru Sampradaya does not appeal to your sensibilities, do read this  new book 'Ants among Elephants' written by Sujatha Gidla, who writes about herself as being bor...

Gayatri Mantra as Panchamukhi: Get it right or let it go

Most people do not understand the importance of chanting the Gayatri mantra because they are not aware of its power. It is only when I began to read Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba's teachings that I learned how sacred and powerful the chanting of the Gayatri mantra is.   [Subscribe to my weekly newsletter now]   The Vedas represent the breath of God. The Gayatri mantra is the very basis of the Vedas. Try not to undertake chanting the Gayatri mantra as a light endeavor or as a hobby. It has to be chanted with faith, discipline and purity of mind and body. Be steady with your sadhana if you want to reap the spiritual dividend associated with the Gayatri mantra  and never once hesitate once you decide to do it.  Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba said that the Gayatri Mantra is referred to as Pancha Mukhi, the Goddess with five faces that represent the five pranas or life forces. Here's more on it. .  Also read: The Power of OM  and Dark Night of the Sou...

However, I did not chant this mantra regularly.  At the age of two, my son was taught some mantras by my mother who explained what it means to him and he became very...

Little things can bring great joy

Yesterday, I realized that it was a dear fr iend's birthday and he wasn't on Facebook. So, there were no FB reminders. I dug out old albums and found his pic. I put a 'Happy Birthday' post on Facebook - which helped many mutual friends to reach out to him and wish him. People suddenly realized that they had missed him.  Later in the evening, I called him. The joy in his voice was unmistakable.  Little things can bring great joy. We just need to reach out to more people with more love.  God is love and His love is best expressed through the choices we make. Can being missed by other human beings make a difference, lift your spirits? Do share your thoughts.....
