Six Happiness Lessons I learned from a Baby in a Boutique

Happiness is a strange thing, at least in my life. It is always the little things that bring a big smile to my face, not that I have any big things lined up in my life.  But I must confess that happiness is not what I expected to feel when I popped into the neighborhood's busiest boutique!

Last evening, I had just dropped in to collect some materials that I had given for stitching at the boutique. Besides long traffic jams on the route,  I was stressed out. I needed to complete some paperwork at the private bank and that had just got done at the last minute. I had to pick up groceries on the way and the list was pretty long. Then I had to reach my son before a certain time as per schedule.

So, when I spotted a baby in the boutique, I felt instantly happy.  As our gazes locked, the three-month-old beauty began to smile, stretch her tiny palms to me and our eyes locked for several minutes.  She began to push herself more towards me, making tiny sounds to get my attention and in those moments, all my tensions ebbed away and happiness embraced me without any effort. I was so wrapped up in her trusting, adoring eyes that I felt supreme peace - no wonder, the Himalayan Masters like Swami Rama say that one must be fearless on the path of spirituality and be open to the Universe, just like a baby.  [READ: It's Ok to be Vulnerable]

Somewhere along the way, our inner child is lost and regaining it feels like Mission Impossible. Opening up is tough, because of life.  As you grow along with it, your own experiences teach you to distrust people than to trust them. It's called life.

In these life-changing moments with the baby, here's what I learned and I feel super happy sharing this with you:

1. You Are Perfect. Enjoy it. Just like this Baby.

2. You Don't Need Anyone's Approval. Be You. Just like this Baby.

3.  You Don't Need External Confirmation of Your Uniqueness. Be like a Baby who enjoys the adoration that comes her way and knows that she deserves the love.

4.  Life is about joyful moments that need to be welcomed and celebrated with smiles. Like this baby who opened her arms to a stranger, be open to all goodness.

5.  You are a gorgeous being. If people don't find you good enough to love, it's their loss and their problem. Don't beat yourself up over it.

Cradling the baby in my arms, it struck me that it is our inner Divinity that enables us to love.  Think of all the spiritual greats who were able to do this easily!

A gentle reminder, yet again, - 'Separation is Illusion, Oneness is Divine.'

The problem with these points is you may cant think it over and over a few times but wont be able to sustain it as your mind will get bored and move on . I felt its easy to make your mind such a way that you feel this from inside. that way u feel the same with out having to constantly remind urself
